Acetylene coating is a key process that uses acetylene (C₂H₂) pyrolysis to deposit a carbon layer on the surface of the material through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology. The acetylene coating rotary kiln is mainly used to improve the conductivity and structural stability of electrode materials. Its core principles, processes and applications are as follows:

‌1. Process principles and mechanisms‌

(1) Acetylene pyrolysis reaction: In an inert atmosphere (such as Ar, N₂) at 600–900℃, acetylene molecules are cracked to generate active carbon atoms and deposited on the surface of the substrate: This process forms a uniform carbon coating layer with a thickness of usually 1–50 nm.

(2) Functional mechanism:

‌Conductivity enhancement: The carbon layer provides an electronic conduction network to improve the conductivity of the material;

‌Volume buffering: The coating layer inhibits the volume expansion of silicon-based materials during charging and discharging (the silicon expansion rate is as high as 300%);

‌Interface stability: Reduce the side reactions between active substances and electrolytes and improve the cycle life.

2. Typical application scenarios: Acetylene-coated rotary kiln is mainly used for silicon-carbon anode electrode materials

(1) Porous silicon coating: Acetylene deposits a carbon layer on the surface of the 3D porous silicon skeleton, so that the composite material maintains a capacity of 1552mAh/g3 after 200 cycles at a current of 200mA/g;

(2) Synergistic modification: Composite with MOF-derived carbon (such as Si NWs/MOF@C) to improve rate performance (4A/g capacity reaches 508mAh/g)

 

3. Main technical parameters of acetylene-coated rotary kiln:

(1) Rated temperature: 900℃

(2) Maximum temperature: 950℃

(3) Furnace tube material: SUS310S

(4) Feeding method: unloading from storage tank, spiral conveying; when unloading from storage tank, the gas in the furnace is prevented from flowing back through the airflow

(5) Discharging method: furnace tube tilting and rotating discharging (the discharging power mainly depends on the centrifugal force generated by rotation)

(6) Furnace tube rotation: the motor drives the furnace tube to rotate through the gear, and the speed is adjustable from 0.01 to 0.05 r/min

(7) Heating element: Ceramic tube with Kanthal heating wire

(8) Insulation material: Ceramic fiber cotton

(9) Protective or flushing atmosphere: nitrogen

(10) Carbon source: methane/acetylene

(11) Furnace tube sealing form: magnetic fluid + large-diameter rotary joint (DN150) + lip seal
